The community of Brantford is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Jake Maher aka Jacob Maher, a beloved young athlete who tragically passed away following an accident.

Jake was a proud alumnus of Assumption College School (ACS), where he shone both on and off the football field. Known for his leadership, sportsmanship, and infectious positivity, he captained the Assumption Lions Football team and helped lead them to an OFSAA Northern Bowl Championship in 2023 — a moment that remains one of the most cherished in the school’s history.
The ACS Brantford Football team confirmed the devastating news in a heartfelt post, saying,
“We are heartbroken to share the tragic passing of former Assumption Football captain, teammate, and champion — Jake Maher. Jake was everything you could ask for in a player and a person — a fierce competitor, a true leader, and an incredible teammate who made everyone around him better, all while smiling and having a fantastic attitude. He helped lead Assumption Senior Football to an OFSAA Northern Bowl Championship in 2023, leaving his mark on the field and in our hearts forever. Jake has now become another angel watching over our ACS Football family. 🕊️💙”
The school community and football family have been deeply shaken by the loss. Messages of love and remembrance have poured in from friends, coaches, and former teammates.
