The community of North Tonawanda, Buffalo, New York, is mourning the tragic loss of Jason Beckman, a respected teacher at Amherst Middle School, who passed away following a devastating accident on October 6, 2025. He was 52 years old.
According to reports from the New York State Park Police, a vehicle traveling eastbound on the Niagara Scenic Parkway exited the roadway near Bird Overlook and entered the Niagara River around 9:15 a.m. Emergency crews, including State Police, Niagara Falls Police, and the Niagara Falls Fire Department, immediately launched a large-scale search operation.
Using drones, rescue vessels, aviation support, and underwater dive teams, authorities located the submerged vehicle about 50 feet offshore at approximately 10:49 a.m. Later that morning, the State Park Police Marine Unit, along with the State Police Underwater Recovery Team, recovered a body from the river identified as Jason Beckman, the registered owner and operator of the vehicle.
